Private Lessons

Quoted from Seth Ciasulli:

Yes, I do private lessons here at Red Hawk. Due to the high demand, I am going to be very selective with who I give private lessons to. Therefore I am creating new rules and regulations regarding the lessons that I provide. As always with something like this, these rules may evolve as time goes on.

Your wrestler must know our lesson plan inside and out.

This requires a certain bit of commitment to Red Hawk before lessons will start. The purpose of private lessons is not to teach what moves to use, but to teach how and when to use them.

My lessons are aimed at connecting the dots and bridging the gap between K-6 wrestling and college wrestling. I want your young wrestler to wrestle as if he's in college. This requires time for sure, but it also requires that when I say a move as we're wrestling, he's able to understand what I mean and do it. There are many situations to go over in this sport and it helps tremendously when he's knowledgable enough to understand what I'm talking about with simple references.

This rule bleeds into the next rule.

You must attend Red Hawk at least twice per week.

I am going to be strict with this because in my opinion private lessons should only be regarded as supplemental. A private lesson does not replace a practice. Especially with one-on-ones, lessons are just a small part of what will make your wrestler better. I can fix a lot of things one-on-one but your wrestler needs to try these techniques and concepts on partners his own age and size. Technique needs to be reinforced.

I will naturally help your wrestler more in practice should you get private lessons, due to simple familiarity, and I will give suggestions related to what we went over in the lesson as a practice progresses.

Your wrestler must continue to drill and execute moves in order to remember them. He won't be able to do that if he's never at practice. Over time he will forget our lesson plan and his style will shrink more and more. I would have to spend valuable time having him drill and go over the list of moves, of which he should already be doing in practice.

I will only do private lessons with those who are committed to the sport and to Red Hawk. In the past I have given lessons to those who don't come to Red Hawk, who represent other wrestling clubs, who are on some form of vacation, or who are playing another sport. All of that has started to wear on me. I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle. I feel like I'm wasting my time. I don't enjoy the feeling.

How can I get your wrestler better if he's never at practice? Why should I care about him if he doesn't care enough to come to Red Hawk? I understand everyone has time constraints because of all of the things you want to do, and that's fine, but private lessons will not be beneficial if you aren't committed to all aspects of practicing the sport.

Price Changes Effective Now (Per Hour)

  • One-on-one: $60
  • Group Of Two: $80 ($40 Each)
  • Group Of Four: $100 ($25 Each)

I have been at $40 per hour since I was 16, I think it's time I raise the bar a little.

Because of these new changes, things may shake up a bit as far as my schedule is concerned. I know I'm usually booked. If you ask me for lessons and I am filled, please keep asking. Lessons usually run week-to-week and when one spot opens up it goes to the first person to inquire.

Time Slots (One Lesson Per Hour)

I will update this as often as I can, and eventually I'll create a calandar to keep this as filled as possible.
